In this eleventh installment of our quarterly series, Philosophers in the Midst of History, I discuss the life, thought, and importance of John Locke in his historical context. Locke made major contributions not only to philosophical fields such as epistemology and metaphysics, but also in the domain of education, to political and economic theory, and on the issue of religious toleration. He also played a significant role in the ongoing history of his own time, involving cicil wars, conflict argument, and even plots between different factions and forces in British society.
