We will identify the various kinds of Persian cats and what sets them apart from each other.
Traditional Persian Cats
Traditional Persian cats are also known as Doll Face Persians. As the name suggests, these cats have a face that resembles a doll with a slightly pushed-in nose and a round, chubby face. They are the original type of Persian cats that were first bred in Persia, now known as Iran. These cats have a more natural look with a longer muzzle and a flatter forehead than the modern Persian cats.
Modern Persian Cats
Modern Persian cats are also known as Peke-face Persians. They have a flatter face and a shorter muzzle than traditional Persian cats. These cats have been bred to have a more extreme appearance, with a rounder face and a shorter nose, making them look more like a Pekingese dog than a cat. This type of Persian cat has become more popular in recent years and is often seen in cat shows.
Himalayan Persian Cats
Himalayan Persian cats, also known as Colourpoint Persians, are a type of Persian cat that has been bred to have the colorpoint pattern of Siamese cats. These cats have a distinctive pattern of darker colors on their faces, ears, tails, and paws, with a lighter body color. They have the same body type as the traditional Persian cat but with the colorpoint pattern. Himalayan Persian cats are known for their laid-back personalities and affectionate nature.
Exotic Shorthair Persian Cats
Exotic Shorthair Persian cats are a type of Persian cat that has been bred with American Shorthair cats to create a cat with a shorter coat. These cats have the same round face and short muzzle as the modern Persian cat, but their coat is shorter and denser. They come in a variety of colors and patterns and are known for their sweet and affectionate personalities.
