Another view of the automaton showing the movements of the arms, hands and the arrow release. The release was the hardest part of this movement. I ended up mounting a small pulley wheel on the shoulder and attaching a cable to the release mechanism in the hand. It was a delicate balance of pulling hard enough on the cable without disturbing the arm, but thankfully it worked.
I make all my automata using found objects and cheap aluminium, copper, brass, tin and thin stainless steel ware from boot fairs and charity shops. If you want to see how I got here and the sort of work I did over 35 years in theatre, film TV, museums, theme parks and sculptures for various artists please go to my website dermotjdoyle.weebly.com
