Construction Training Fund (CTF) is providing opportunities for a lot of people to make their career in the building and construction industry, including carpenters and joiners like Zac Elyes. Zac has had a lot of fulfilment out of his job as a carpenter and joiner and he really enjoys getting to different work every day and the opportunities to learn new things.
The Apprenticeship and Traineeship Grant for Employers has lead to opportunities to be trained as a carpenter and joiner in the construction industry.
This job could be right for you if you:
- Are good at maths
- Enjoy working with wood and with your hands,
- Enjoy practical hands-on work that’s mostly outdoors
- Have good balance and aren’t scared of heights
There are a lot of great opportunities at the moment for carpenters and joiners within construction jobs. A typical working day may involve a variety of different tasks.
On the job you will often be:
- building a house framework, walls, roof frame and exterior finish
- installing doors, windows, flooring, stairs, handrails and panelling
- reading and interpreting plans to determine the dimensions, installation procedures and layout of a project
- selecting materials and tools for the job
- measuring and marking materials
- cutting, and shaping materials to join them with nails, screws, bolts or glue
- maintaining and operating hand and power tools
