In addition to the extensive tram network of Berlin, there are also three suburban tram lines east of the city, connecting several towns to the nearest S-Bahn (suburban railway) station. All three operators are characterized by an interesting rolling stock, as well as beautiful routes.
The tram line of Strausberg, which was formerly operated as branch railway line, connects the town center to the railway station. The rolling stock consists of two Flexity trams (identical to those in Berlin) and one Tatra KT8D5 car, which was modernized and equipped with a low-floor section in 2014. The unique Tatra T6C5 car is rarely used. All three types can be seen in this video.
The Schöneiche-Rüdersdorf tram company uses mostly Tatra KTNF6 (bought from Cottbus) and Transtech/Skoda Artic (bought from Helsinki). In the evening rush hour, additional service is provided by the last three Düwag GT6 cars, which came here from Heidelberg.
The tram company of Woltersdorf is still using a fleet of Gotha two-axle cars, which were built more than 60 years ago. Though, it is planned to replace them in a few years.
