Hi, it's HandyAndy Tech Tips here, and today I'm going to show you how to add colour to the title bars in Windows 10. Now a problem with Windows 10 is that the title bars on every window appear bleached white. Unfortunately, even if you pick a custom colour in the default Windows 10 theme, it only changes the colour of your Start menu and taskbar, and not the window titlebars. The solution is to install a custom theme, and I'll show you how to do it.
So to follow along with my tutorial, please click anywhere on this video to open the site where you can download the custom theme.
So once you've opened the site in your web browser of choice, you want to scroll down to the steps, and then click on the link in Step 1. It will open this website called "Mega" - just got to wait a bit for it to load - and then you want to click on the "Download" link to download Themes.rar. And then wait a little while until it downloads to your "Downloads" folder, which is presumably where it will download to. So as you can see down the bottom there - yep, it's just downloaded. So the problem is that Windows actually doesn't have any built-in utilities for opening RAR files, so if you don't have 7-Zip or something similar installed already, then click on the link in Step 2 to download 7-Zip. The version that I'd probably recommend downloading is the 32-bit, x86 version, which is the one that I've highlighted there.
So after downloading and installing 7-Zip, you want to go down the bottom, on your taskbar, to the search box, and type "7-Zip", and then click on "7-Zip File Manager", which will probably be the main result. Now from within 7-Zip, you need to find your Downloads folder. This process will differ from computer to computer, but here's the basic steps. So double click on "Computer"; on the drive that Windows is installed on, it'll probably be C; on "Users"; on your username, that's my username, windows10tryout; on "Downloads"; and then double click on the Themes.rar file that you downloaded. Now you'll see two files in there - the "colored" folder and the "colored.theme" file. Drag both of these to your desktop. Now you want to open a new File Explorer window, and type this path into the address bar. And then press enter. You're now in the themes folder, and you want to drag both the colored folder and the colored.theme file to this folder. You might need to provide Administrative permission for these files to be copied into the folder, just click Continue if you do, and maybe you'll need to type your password as well.
Now just double click on the colored file, the theme, and look at that! We've actually got coloured titlebars in Windows
10. Now this is really awesome, because no matter what custom colour you set in the "Personalization" section of
Settings, it will actually appear on the titlebars of your windows. So, problem fixed!
