Laser Iridotomy using Argon laser first, then YAG laser. The technique is the "Schlossman Method" also called "30, 60, 90" technique, taught by Abraham Schlossman. (30+30 shots= 60 shots, 60+30 shots = 90 shots). This is an approximation of shots. Dr. Schlossman taught residents to start low on argon power, because it may hurt initially, and gradually increase the power. Also, may think about argon as using a shovel to dig a hole deeper and deeper, then once almost penetrated, to use YAG to open the hole. The benefit of using the argon first is that it is less painful than YAG, and that it coagulates vessels to decrease potential to bleed.
Argon laser (approximately): 30 shots on 300mW, 30 shots on 600mW, 30 shots on 900mW. This is to progressively dig a deeper hole, and to coagulate vessels.
Afterwards, switch to YAG laser: 2.5-5.5mJ.
For patients: All laser sounds are what you would hear during the procedure.
