When tired of eating sweets, we are always on the look out for spicy food on the platter. “Spicy shankarpali or Spicy Diamond Cuts”, a savoury snack can be a great saviour for people who are not fond of sweets ! Crunchy from the outside and soft from the inside, these fritters are great tea time snacks. They are crispy and have that melt-in-your-mouth texture. Trust me!! These are so addictive that they are gone in no time. “Spicy shankarpali or Spicy Diamond Cuts” is very easy to make, appetizing and super delicious and is just the perfect munchies for relaxation.
Shankarpali is a popular snack in India and traditionally made for festive occasions, which comes in two flavours: savoury and sweet. Today I’m going to share the recipe for the piquant little diamonds – “Spicy shankarpali or Spicy Diamond Cuts”.
Ingredients -
* 1 & 1/2 cup (180 gm) maida / all purpose flour
* 1/2 cup (80 gm) rava / semolina / suji (fine)
* 1 tsp cumin seeds / jeera
* 1 tsp red chilli powder
* 1 tsp salt
* 3 tbsp ghee / clarified butter (hot)
* 1/2 cup + 4 tsp (140 ml) water for kneading
* oil for frying
Notes
* Adjust spice levels and seasonings to suit your taste.
* Knead well to get a slightly stiff dough.
* Oil should be on medium-low heat while frying.
* Completely cool down shankarpali before storing. Should last for more than 10 days.
