A column of smoke is coming from a refugee camp in Cox's Bazar, #Bangladesh, where 2,000 shelters have already been burned and their occupants have lost their belongings. The majority of the refugees are Rohingya, a stateless ethnic group with a Muslim majority, who were violently expelled from Myanmar to Bangladesh in 2017. The situation worsened for the Rohingyas in 2021 following the military coup in #Myanmar.
The military junta specifically persecutes #Christians, #Muslims, and #women. The situation of the Rohingyas is of great concern to Pope Francis, who often prays for them in public.
