Pinocchio is a fantasy adventure film with an animated musical score. It was developed by Walt Disney Productions and premiered in theaters by RKO Radio Pictures on February 23, 1940, as the second picture in the Disney Animated Canon.
Pinocchio was created in response to Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs' huge worldwide success. Based on Carlo Collodi's Italian book The Adventures of Pinocchio, which is the world's second most translated book, with over 300 translations. The film follows a puppet, who is brought to life by a fairy, as he attempts to earn the right to become a real boy by overcoming the obstacles and dangers of a dark, unfriendly world filled with crooks, villains, and monsters.
