Alright guys happy Monday, No way I'm doing the morning minute outside today as there's a winter storm going on over here in New York. But today I wanted to cross loss of use and additional living expense off the list.
Loss of use is going to cover you in the event, for example, let's say a tree falls on your house. Your home is damaged and you can't live in the home while the construction company is making repairs. Loss of use can cover you for additional living expenses to live outside the home.
It can help reimburse you for a hotel or motel stay. To board a pet and for additional food expenses, things like that. So there's a few different things that can be covered under there.
Now keep in mind, it's not only if the tree falls on your house and your house is damaged. Any covered loss on your homeowners policy which causes you to have to live outside the home while construction is going on is what additional living expenses also known as ALE will cover you for.
Also keep in mind, it's generally how they calculate the amount on your policy is about 20 to 30% of your dwelling coverage. And some carriers you can increase that limit. I'll tell you 99.9% of the people just leave that limit alone. However, talk to your agent about it.
Make sure you have it on your policy. If you guys have any questions, let me know. Have an awesome Monday. Be safe out there. Take it easy.
