(26 Oct 2016) South Africa's Finance Minister delivered a mid term budget speech in the country's Parliament on Wednesday, less than a week before he is due to be charged with fraud in what legal experts say is a flimsy case.
The charges brought against Pravin Gordhan relate to his signing off on the early retirement of one of his staff members.
Political commentators have asked why the charge against Gordhan is a matter of urgency while opposition parties have questioned the timing of the charges and the way in which the announcement was made, by a last minute press conference.
