We take a look at the racial divide within the Latino community. Almost a quarter of Hispanics living in the U.S., identify as Afro-Latino, according to Pew Research Center. However, the complicated relationship in the community with colorism and racism makes it harder to bring visibility to the Afro-Latinos. We talk to community leaders that discuss what it feels like to be excluded or erased from Latino culture and also analyze how the use of terms like “mejorar la raza” has allowed for the normalization of this divisive behavior.
