On November 23, 2004, The John Adams Institute hosted an evening with Stephen Greenblatt. The Harvard scholar and Shakespeare guru brought us his latest offering, Will in the World: How Shakespeare Became Shakespeare. Best known as the founder of “New Historicism” – a controversial school of literary criticism that inextricably links literature with the social and historical currents of its time – Greenblatt is credited with creating as vivid a portrait as we are ever likely to have of the world’s greatest writer. Classicist David Rijser not only moderated, but brought his entire class of students with him!
