The adjustment of the side windows needs to be checked on the E-Class Coupé.
It is shown here on the passenger side.
Lower both windows and start with basic adjustment of the crank window.
The "Theft detection" clip is located behind the sealing lip on the door frame.
Unhook the clip with a suitable screwdriver.
Detach the sealing rail from the window channel.
Work step-by-step towards the front.
Removal of the front door lining comes next.
The procedure can be seen in the video "Removal of the front door lining on the E-Class Coupé".
Once this operation step is completed, remove the adhesive pads shown here.
Since the work is being performed on the passenger side, the side window can be operated via the driver side.
When working on the driver side:
Reconnect the electrical system to the door control unit to operate the window.
Raise the crank window until the threaded connections on the power window are visible through the openings.
Loosen both bolts initially with a ratchet.
Slide the window all the way to the rear.
Stick a piece of adhesive tape to the outside.
Slide the window all the way back to the front.
Draw a line along the window guide rail with a pen.
Slide window 4 mm back to rear.
Check clearance with feeler gauge.
If the clearance is correct, tighten the bolts on the power window to 9 Nm.
Reattach the adhesive pads to their original position.
Remove the adhesive tape from the window.
Basic adjustment of the crank window is thus complete.
For the height adjustment, attach two strips to the top of the window.
Attach two more strips to the corner by the window guide rail.
Measure and make a mark approx. 40 mm from the edge towards the centre of the window.
Then measure approx. 10 mm down and make a mark.
Mark another point next to it at the same height.
Draw a line between the two points.
On the lower adhesive tape, mark a point approx. 25 mm from the window guide rail and 10 mm from the top.
Again, make a second point at the same height and draw a line in.
Move the window all the way up.
Check result with a feeler gauge.
Due to the insertion depth of 2 mm, it must be 8 mm on the outside of the window.
For this reason, do not measure as shown here.
Instead, place the feeler gauge directly on the anodized strip on the rubber seal.
The upper and lower settings are correct in this case.
If this is not the case, a special tool is required.
Insert a long Torx screwdriver between door paneling and window.
This is shown on a model for better viewing.
Lower the height of the window by turning the adjustment screw clockwise.
The window moves upwards by turning counterclockwise.
Set the optimal height at the front in the same way.
Open the door so that the window moves down slightly.
Remove the adhesive strips.
Then manually lower the window a bit further.
It will not then automatically raise when the door is closed.
To set the pretension, place the feeler gauge 2 mm behind the window.
The outer edge of the feeler gauge must touch the groove of the sealing frame.
If the window is not adjusted correctly, a special tool is again required.
The adjustment bolt is directly behind the warning lamp in the door lining.
Initially loosen the nut on the adjustment bolt with the socket wrench.
Turning to the right moves the window outwards.
Turning to the left moves the window inwards.
Retighten the nut when all the settings are correct.
A correctly adjusted crank window is a basic requirement for adjusting the rear side window.
Remove the sealing rail.
Check dimension between window and waistline flange.
The clearance is 12 mm with a tolerance of +/- 1 mm.
When closing, the window should run into the centre as shown here.
If this setting is not correct, use the socket wrench shown previously.
Adjust the window at the two bolts highlighted.
After installing the sealing rail, check the gap dimensions between door and rear window.
The dimension is not correct here.
The clearance should be 9 mm at the top and bottom with a tolerance of +/- 1 mm.
The upper dimension must always be larger than or equal to the lower dimension.
To adjust the window, move it halfway down.
Attach three adhesive strips at the positions shown here.
Again measure approx. 10 mm down from the top.
Mark one point and a second at the same height.
Draw a line between the two points to help you.
Repeat the same procedure on the other adhesive strips.
The trim in the rear must also be removed now.
This is shown in the video "Removal of rear trim on E-Class Coupé".
After the trim, also remove the emergency tensioning retractor.
Place this to one side and remove the three rubber covers.
You now need an assistant.
The assistant initially loosens the threaded connections on the window lifter.
Move the window into the correct position with a cup suction tool.
