In 1997, inspired by Bodan Litnianski’s Garden of Shells, and Maison de Picassiette – the mosaic-tiled house of grave sweeper Raymond Isidore – as well as by postman Ferdinand Cheval's "Ideal Palace", he started to build a chapel (La Grotte) in his garden in Malakoff. Using old materials that he had in his cellar, he began with the steeple and then made the body of the chapel which he moulded from resin set on a wooden framework, and covered in pieces of broken ceramics, glass and shells. His mosaic garden grew from there.
