(27 Sep 2015) Pope Francis met with 100 inmates in the largest correctional facility in Philadelphia on the final day of his U.S. tour.
Francis' remarks were broadcast Sunday to the jail's other 3,000 inmates.
Before his remarks, Francis sat in a special wooden chair made by inmates at the city's largest jail. Ten inmates hand-carved the walnut wood chair, which took about four weeks to build.
The builders are part of vocational programs that give inmates skills to use after their release.
The Pope addressed about 100 inmates, mainly Catholic, who were selected by prison officials, based on their custody behavior.
At the Pope's request some Catholic families of the inmates were also in the audience.
