Laura Rosenberger, Director of the U.S. German Marshall Fund’s Alliance for Securing Democracy, joined the 2020 Aspen Security Forum to discuss the digital struggle between liberal and illiberal states online. Speaking with Stanford University’s Renee DiResta and The New York Times’ Cecilia Kang, Rosenberger outlined the chief aim of disinformation campaigns orchestrated by Moscow, Beijing, and others: to sow mistrust in the democratic process and undermine the foundations of liberal society itself.
The Aspen Security Forum, presented by the Aspen Strategy Group, is an annual gathering of heads of state and government, visionary policymakers, leading business executives, and noted print and broadcast journalists to discuss the most important foreign policy and national security challenges facing the world today. Hosted each summer, the Forum traditionally convenes hundreds of speakers and attendees on the Aspen Institute’s historic Meadows campus in Colorado, with thousands more following the conversations held on stage through widespread Forum coverage in print, digital, and broadcast media.
