I'm NOT Boycotting Bayonetta 3 and Neither Are YOU. Gaming drama time! Due to the need for press, today's big news item is about how the Bayonetta English Dub actress, Hellena Taylor has turned down the role of Bayonetta due to being offered an "insulting" sum of $4,000 dollars (a standard flat rate) for her voice work in the upcoming Platinum game, Bayonetta 3. Based on her comments of wanting a "living wage," I am assuming she was wanting a figure around $30,000-$40,000. Maybe in Hollywood, my love. In today's video, I not only share my thoughts on this news item, but touch on the disconnect voice actors seem to have with the gaming industry where they are under the impression that game dev is just interactive cinema (which it is not) and why if you are wanting to try and lead a boycott campaign against a product, you will need leverage to make that happen. Which, in this case, will not happen. Yes lots of articles and think pieces will be published saying that the voice actor not getting $30k for three days work is an outrage, but the audience do not follow the series because of it's voiceacting. Honestly, they could remove all voicework completely and I'd probably consider that an improvement (all the Bayo cutscenes kill the pace of the game anyway). Needless to say, I very much look forward to seeing all the people saying they are boycotting the game, picking it up anyway when it comes out. Which is preditable and funny.
