Al Islaah presents this series on "Karbala from Authentic Sources".
The goal is not only to shed light on the reliable accounts of what the mission and objective of Imam Abu Abdillah al Husayn bin Ali (as) was in his historic and tragic journey, but to also expose the fabricated stuff that's recited from the Mimbar that has no basis in the earliest and most authoritative sources, and which has clearly been invented just to make people cry.
In this lecture, light is shed on the number one cause behind the multiplication and proliferation of false narratives, fabrications, weak and unreliable inventions around the tragedy of Karbala.
Dr. Syed Ali Hur Kamoonpuri begins by showcasing the candid admission from Ayatullah Shaykh Mohammad Asif Muhsini (d. 2019 CE/ 1440 AH) which he makes as he concludes the chapter on the Maqtal and Shahaadah of of Imam Husain (as) as given in Bihaar al Anwaar, he writes:
"وبالجملة أكثر تفاصيل حوادث كربلاء مجهولة والناس يطلوبن ما يبكيهم وكثير من الوعاظ محتاجون إلى الجاه والمال فآل أمر القصص إلى ما يُرى."

“To sum up, majority of the details about the events of Karbala are unknown, and the people demand stuff that will make them cry, and many of the Wu’aadh (preachers & Majlis reciters) are very much after fame/popularity and wealth, so that is how the stories (about Karbala) have reached where they have reached.”

The central thesis and key argument of the Sayyid is: the day we made mourning and crying the goal of this whole remembrance, we had already shot ourselves in the feet. Because none of these fake stories would have been invented if people's approach to Karbala had been: we want to learn lessons about Imam Husain's devotion to Allah and his firm belief in him, and his God consciousness from this incident.
But when we set crying and mourning as the goal/end all be all, then people had to struggle to come up with new, creative, and innovative ways to accomplish this goal.
Lion's share of the blame, as usual, would go here to the fabricators and inventors of narrations who infiltrated the Imami corpus, and zoomed in on crying and mourning as the only appropriate response and reaction to Kerbala, and exaggerated the reward of mourning beyond the wildest limits.

عندما تكون المجالس الحسينية لإبكاء الناس فقط !! ـــــــ
يتوهّم بعضٌ أن عاشوراء والثورة الحسينية تختصر في البكاء والعويل، إنهم يرون أن الأصل الأصيل في الموضوع ليس سوى البكاء والنحيب، وأنّ أيّ شيء آخر لابد أن يُقاس على هذا الأصل وفقط! فكلّ خبر أو حديث صحيح مهما كانت درجة اعتباره وصحّته لا قيمة له عندهم ما لم يوجب إبكاء السامعين، فبعض قراء العزاء والمدّاحين يعيشون دوماً هذا المفهوم، أي أنهم يذهبون ناحية كتب التاريخ والمقاتل ليضعوا يدهم على أكثر ما فيها إحراقاً للقلوب وإدراراً للدمعة من قصص وحكايات، وإذا ما حصلوا على ما هو أعمّ من الصحيح وغيره، أضافوا عليه ما يلزم حتى يخرجوه عن حالته الأولى ليكون نافعاً، فقد يصنعون من جملةٍ لا تزيد على نصف السطر قصةً طويلة، ومن رواية قصيرة يؤلّفون عشرات الروايات الأدبية، الأمر المثير فعلاً للتعجّب!
