I went on a Carnival cruise from Long Beach to Catalina Island to Ensenada and back. The cruise lasted 4 nights. This was filmed last week, from August 8th to August 11th.
Overall the trip was enjoyable. It was VERY much affordable, at $180 per person before gratuity and extras, such as alcohol.
Likes:
1. A lot of all-you-can-eat options, and a handful of pay-as-you-go options.
2. The number of ship activities, such as a nightclub, comedy club, casino, and social events.
3. The smoothness and ease of the entire boarding and deboarding process.
Dislikes:
1. Limited late night meal options. You'd have to wait in line for crappy pizza at 3am.
2. The included food is generally below average, except the sunset restaurant. This might actually be a plus for some as I know I'd be chowing down a lot more if the food was actually good.
3. Mandatory gratuity. I wish the total price had gratuity baked in as they charge you $14/day for gratuity after the cruise is over. That just defeats the purpose if it is mandatory.
4. The small pools are always full. The hot tubs are always full as well with some closed a portion of the time even when the rest are full.
