As the last piece, I have chosen the Sonata in B flat major from the master Silvius Leopold Weiss (Breslau 1686-Dresden 1750). This sonata opens with quasi-improvised Prelude. This highly expressive Prelude is giving us just a small taste of the following Ouverture, opening with a majestic B flat major chord, using the French dotted rhythm, giving us the feeling of a full orchstra playing. After a brief introduction Weiss develops a fugato figure, which comes up in all voices. There are sequences reminiscent of Vivaldi, which give this part of the piece an "amabile" character. Thanks to the sequences and effective harmonical structure of the Courante I have the feeling it has to be played as a flowing river that can calm the audience but still hide an incredible engery. The Bouree as well as the Gavotte have a two voice texture with a gentle melody. The slow movement of this long an virtuoso Sonata is the short Menuett that has some intense dissonant harmonies that are always resolved in peaceful consonances.
