Here's a close look at a Mercedes Unimog/ Ziegler fire engine/ tanker of the German Army. More interesting details below 🔽
Overall this is a pretty "simple" truck. Noteworthy is the water cannon on the roof as well as what and how this truck is being used.
The German army has several large training grounds and areas which are stretching quite a few square Km / miles and which includes certain terrain as well as forests. Sometimes something hot like a bullet can cause a wildfire on these grounds, hence they've got their own fire department at these facilities.
Their firefighters are NOT permitted to leave the vehicles on these grounds due to explosives that may still be in or on the ground. The entire firefighting process has to be done from the vehicle. For that they can grab a hose and use it from the window or roof of the cabin and they can use the water canon on the roof as well. The pump can be operated from the cabin too so that they don't need to touch the ground beneath the truck.
The fire trucks are not armored by the way.
I also included a few shots of the rotating lights for all of you who like this older rotator look 🙂
