So what makes the Shaman (Gur) such an important part of Himachali Society?
Meru takes Anu to meet Hardayal, the oracular Gur, and witnesses his divination (pooch) sessions, where locals "chat" informally with their Deity, through him! She discovers that these "conversations with God" through the Gur, are a part of the everyday lives of the people of Kullu Valley.
But Anu's skepticism is shattered when she has her own up-close and personal encounter with Tej Singh, the Gur of a Snake God.
Anu visits the home of Chris Oldmeadow, a Scottish Indophile, to participate in an intimate family divination session. Through Tej Singh, Chris's wife asks their God (Devta) to divinate the cause of and cure for their daughter's illness. The Devta obliges the family, but then decides to speak directly to Anu!
Amazingly, the Devta accurately intuits a major health problem that Anu has been facing and reveals it to be a spirit illness... leaving her amazed and anxious to find out more...
