Access to digital research information is a mission equally shared by libraries, campus IT departments, and information providers in the academic sector. Institutions are at a critical junction for providing even more uninterrupted and frictionless access for end users across a wide range of digital information and services that have been abruptly moved online. Yet surveys as well as librarian experiences indicate that there can be serious gaps in communication and understanding between campus IT and the library that have a negative impact on user experience and the ability of libraries to fully fulfill their mission. These impacts are sometimes overt and obvious to users but can be more pernicious for both users and the institution. How can the communication and understanding between IT and libraries be improved to deliver reliable and flexible remote access while safeguarding the information security and privacy of users and institutional data? This panel will discuss the insights gained from a workshop convened by Elsevier that brought together librarians and university CIOs to discuss common concerns and to think through how stakeholders can more effectively work together with publisher technologists to build systems that address each group's concerns.

Paul Schopis, Retired Executive Director/Chief Technology Officer, OARnet, Ohio's academic higher education internet backbone. Schopis led the team that designed OARnet's network, one of the nation's leading statewide, high-speed networks for research and education.

Gwen Evans, VP of Global Library Relations at Elsevier. Before joining Elsevier, Gwen spent seven years as the Executive Director of OhioLINK, Ohio's academic library consortium. She previously served as Associate Professor and Head of Library Information Technology at Bowling Green State University.

Kelechi Okere, Global Dir., Seamless Access Initiative, Elsevier. Kelechi has spent 18 years at Elsevier in various senior roles working with libraries around the world.
