In ancient times, sea trout fishing in the rivers was done with sinkinglines and wetflies. That's how it was done, and several well-meaning and instructive books have been written on the subject. Some of the flies are even referred to as classic Danish sea trout flies today. However, sea trout are easily spooked fish by nature, and in the river they often move under cover of darkness. This obvious shady activity prompted enthusiasts to head to the rivers when others packed up the fly rod during the evening. The skilled Danish fly fisherman and fly tyer Mads Pedersen has also practiced sea trout fishing in the darkest evening and night hours, but has changed tactics and now he uses the daytime to fish the returning sea run trout – and is often alone by the river. He himself says about his favorite fly type: "At one point I came across American Landon Mayer's Mini Leech Jig Fly - a type of fly that is very popular with big trout in the United States, and I immediately thought that this type of fly must be able to do something. Simple but effective, with a very vibrant movement in the water due to the soft long rabbit strip wing, and the style of the popular euro-nymphing. But most importantly, it could come down where the trout that hide during the day, under branches or weed bushes, or in the deepest parts of the river, and I started catching beautiful trout in daylight.
