I was invited to join the Telford and District Amateur radio society (TDARS) to celebrate Marconi Day at the Marconi Bungalows in West Wales on the coast. The special event station (GB8MD) had been operated over a 24 hour period collecting a long list of long distance contacts as part of the celebration.
What we didn't expect was a night of very strong gales that nearly toppled the tower and was close to damaging the tents. No one slept during the night and we had to pack up the station during very strong winds.
