The guy asked for something spooky! 💀✨ Where I’m from, there’s no such thing as Halloween. But it’s currently 1000% my favorite holiday; especially in East Nashville. I like spooky things, and front yard have the ability to make my day. 🎃
I saw this friendly guy on my run the other day, and when I went back to find him, strolling through the neighborhood with my guitar, a guy and his friend yelled from a window: “Are you gonna sing for us?” I told them: “No, I’m looking for this friendly little skeleton and I want to film myself singing my one Halloween-themed song with it”. The guy and his friend walked out of the house and said: “I have a tripod you can use!” That soon turned into: “I’m actually studying filmmaking, can I film this for you?” Uuuuuhm… okay? We ended up spending our afternoon finding our guy, setting up and filming a few takes in the low golden light, and this is the result. 👻
So shoutout to my dope neighbors Brent Bentley & his roommate and camera assistant, Trent Taylor. These are their real names, fyi 🥹🧡
“The Magic” was written by my friend Annika Bennett & me, it’s on the “Saddies” EP.
Lyrics:
I saw the light
Swore that everything
Was gonna be fine
Then it left again
It was so bright
I was glowing inside
But it’s gone
Head over heels
Golden hour
in the lavender field
Picked a flower
just to prove it was real
I’m still holding it here
in my hand
But it’s not like you are thinking of me
It was real til you cut me clean off
I’m just mad that the magic is lost, lost
I had a dream
I was in your town
Last halloween
All the stars were out
Smiling at me
but I blinked and indeed
they were gone
Trick or treat?
Nervous deejay
in the passenger seat
Looking for meaning
never meant to be found
We’re just driving around
Happy song
And it’s not like you are thinking of me
It was real til you cut me clean off
I’m just mad that the magic is lost
And you don’t know what it means
Everything that I believed was wrong
I’m just mad that the magic is lost
I’m just sad that the magic is lost
