The cockpit of older generation fighter plane like Mig-21 were filled with lot of gauges, meters, switches and controls. These are now replaced by computerized multifunctional display units and automated switches.
Imagine to monitor and control a sonic plane with numerous and complex controls. I think it does not required practice, rather it required aptitude or born wit.
