Dr. Eileen De Villa, Toronto’s medical officer of health, and Chief Matthew Pegg, Fire Chief & General Manager of Emergency Management for the City of Toronto, provided an update on the city's ongoing response the COVID-19 spread on Wednesday.
Dr. De Villa said there are now 319 cases of COVID-19 in Toronto with an increase of 39 new cases since Tuesday.
Of the total cases, 22 required hospitalization, while 16 per cent are being attributed to community spread.
In addition, Chief Matthew Pegg said the city will be closing all city parks and playgrounds, among other amenities in Toronto to fight the spread of the virus, effective immediately.
The city will begin issuing fines up to $5,000 to those ignoring the new rules.
