When this comes up, you can handle it in the following ways:
1. Powers of attorney: When the customer gives someone the power of attorney to sign documents on their behalf. That person is called a “representative signer.”
2. Signatures by mark: When someone who can’t put their signature on a document is allowed to sign with an “X” or similar mark.
3. Signatures by proxy: When the customer directs someone to sign a document on their behalf.

If your customer does not meet the requirements for these signing alternatives, you should not complete the notarization. Your client will need to contact an attorney for information on how to sign the document.
