Panagia Eleousa Chapel - Nata
Εξωκλήσι Παναγίας Ελεούσας (Κυρά Ελεούσα) Νατά
Ιn the village of Nata – Paphos District - there is a chapel dedicated to the Virgin Mary Eleousa or as the inhabitants of the village call her "Kyra Eleousa". It is located about 2.5 kilometres northeast of the center of the village and is built on the west bank of the river Xeros. It is a single-aisled Basilica with a wooden roof.
The chapel of Panagia Eleousa is an ancient building and until 2011 it was abandoned and in ruins. The roof had collapsed as well as part of the side masonry. It had no doors and no windows either.
In 2011, following the initiative of families from Nata, the chapel has been restored. It has two entrances, one on the south wall and one on the west. At the same time, it is illuminated by two small rectangular windows, one above the western entrance and the other in the center of the semicircular wall on which rests the quadrant of the sanctuary's arch.
On the south wall there are four external buttresses which were paired with four others that appear to have been on the north wall and together formed pointed arches on which the roof rested.
It is always open for the public to visit.
