On August 28, 2014, Rivers went into cardiac arrest during a routine outpatient procedure at a New York City clinic. She was rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital where she was placed in a medically induced coma. Unfortunately, she never regained consciousness and died on September 4, 2014, at the age of 81.

Recently, Rivers' daughter, Melissa, has revealed some important information about her mother's death. In an interview with People magazine, Melissa revealed that she filed a lawsuit against the clinic where her mother was treated, alleging that doctors took a selfie with Joan while she was under anesthesia.

Melissa said that the lawsuit was not about money, but about holding the clinic accountable for their actions. She explained that she wanted to make sure that no other family had to go through what hers did.

In addition, Melissa also revealed that she believes her mother's death was preventable. She explained that Joan had been suffering from a sore throat and was taking medication that may have contributed to her cardiac arrest.
