Join the State Historical Society of Iowa for an online learning series that focuses on the past lives of Iowans to help commemorate the 175th anniversary of Iowa. In this weeks webinar, titled "American Indian Resistance to American Settler Colonialism in the Midwest," Dr. Patrick J. Jung discussed how American Indians in the Midwest resisted the United States and its project of settler colonialism in the nineteenth century. Historians over the last three decades have increasingly come to understand that American Indians developed several strategies to retain their homelands and resist dispossession at the hands of the federal government, strategies that ranged from overt forms of resistance such as warfare to covert, anonymous forms of resistance as well.
