Noemi Puig, MD, PhD, University Hospital Salamanca, Salamanca, Spain, comments on the applications of the heavy/light chain (HLC) assay in multiple myeloma, including assessing monoclonal proteins in IgA multiple myeloma, and identification of polyclonal uninvolved HLC pairs and immunoparesis, which can indicate a higher risk for infections and can serve as a prognostic factor post-transplant.
