This Cornell 5/8/77 soundboard recording was made by longtime Grateful Dead audio engineer Betty Cantor-Jackson. And since she used Nagra IV-S two track stereo tape recorder throughout the 1970's, this video is a little tribute to her fantastic work and best live sounding band. Also, this video serves as a demo of high precision Nagra tape recorders.
In addition, Nagra reel to reel machine showed here is resolving FM Crystal Pilot signal, which originally was intended to keep sound in sync with motion picture equipment. Unlike mono Nagra 4.2, which has resolving circuit onboard (called QSLO), Nagra IV-S lacks the room for such circuit. Hence the external QSLS resolving device.
Recording played at 7.5 ips tape speed. Sound imported directly to Logic Pro.
