Vyzitsa is a village in the municipality of South Pelion, in the Prefecture of Magnesia, in Thessaly. According to the 2011 census it has 255 inhabitants. It is built at an altitude of 500 m on the slopes of Pelion. It is 29 kilometers from Volos and 2 kilometers from Milies Magnesia. It has been characterized as a traditional settlement.
Pinakates is a community of the Municipality of South Pelion in the former Prefecture of Magnesia .
The village is built on the slopes of Pelion overlooking Mount Pagasitikos , about 25 km east of Volos and 5 km east of Agios Georgios Nileias .
According to one version, the name Pinakates comes from one of the first inhabitants of the village who was called pinakas , i.e. a maker of clay or wooden dishes which in the Pelion dialect was called "pinakia". The suffix -ates is considered to be a toponymic formation of the Arvanitic language.
The picturesque Agios Georgios Nileias is located in the center of Pelion, it is only 22 km. from Volos, at an altitude of 680 meters and holds the first position as the highest but also the oldest capital village of Pelion, two things that few know. It stands majestically between two ridges, below the top of the mountain called "Schinzouravli" and is amphitheatrically built, offering a panoramic view towards Pagasitikos, where it extends to the sea and its other settlements (Ano Gatzea, Agia Triada, Kato Gatzea) .
The place it dominates is fertile and richly vegetated, smothered in beeches, chestnuts, plane trees...but also apple, cherry, pear and a host of other nature's treasures from flowers and herbs to wild grasses and mushrooms, depending on the time. Its privileged geographical position makes Agios Georgios, admittedly, an ideal starting point to easily explore all of Pelion, coastal and mountainous.
