Smoky fire that prompted evacuations in Carlsbad quickly contained
The blaze ignited around 1:20 p.m. south of Buena Vista Lagoon
A fire that ignited in Carlsbad sending clouds of smoke into the air that could be seen for miles was quickly contained on Saturday.
The Carlsbad Police Department posted about the fire on its Twitter page about 1:15 p.m. Officials said the blaze was burning south of Buena Vista Lagoon near State Street, Laguna Drive and Buena Vista Circle.
Homes on several nearby streets — Buena Vista Circle, Kremeyer Circle and Laguna Drive — were evacuated as a precaution while firefighters from multiple agencies battled the blaze, police said. A firefighting helicopter could be seen scooping water from the nearby lagoon to drop on the flames.
Carlsbad Boulevard was also closed in both directions.
