Antonis Tzelepis, gives a personal interpretation to a legendary song. Titled Lili Marlene, it is said to be the most famous song during World War II, sung by both sides of the conflict, but with a different character. The song was originally sung by Lale Andersen. 1937 entitled "Das Lied eines Jungen Soldaten auf der Wacht" (The song of a young soldier in the watchtower). The following year it was set to music by Norbert Schultz, and in 1939 it was first recorded by the German singer Lale Andersen (1905-1972), under the new title "Das Mädchen unter der Laterne" (The Girl Under the Lantern). After the simultaneous German invasion of Greece and Yugoslavia, the occupied radio station of Belgrade from the Reich began to broadcast with the very powerful transmitter that had been installed in the meantime, this song, as the most sketchy in the discotheque, without much propaganda character, from where it later spread throughout Europe, the Mediterranean and North Africa, even to the United States and even in translation. Eventually its title was established by the name of the girl Lili Marlen mentioned in the song. In June 1942, in a newer percussion adaptation, it took the form of an invasion, which was perfectly combined with the German military pacing. From then on, for the Germans and their allies, it had a propagandistic character, and for the opponents, it remained a very popular song, with the sweet and passionate voice of Andersen. The interpretation of the great Marlen Diedrich is also characteristic. . .
We give you the lyrics :
LILY MARLENE
Vor der Kaserne
Vor dem großen Tor
Stand eine Laterne
Und steht sie noch davor
So woll'n wir uns da wieder seh'n
Bei der Laterne wollen wir steh'n
Wie einst Lili Marleen . . .
Unsere beide Schatten
Sah'n wie einer aus
Daß wir so lieb uns hatten
Das sah man gleich daraus
Und alle Leute soll'n es seh'n
Wenn wir bei der Laterne steh'n
Wie einst Lili Marleen. . .
Deine Schritte kennt sie,
Deinen zieren Gang
Alle Abend brennt sie,
Doch mich vergaß sie lang
Und sollte mir ein Leids gescheh'n
Wer wird bei der Laterne stehen
Mit dir Lili Marleen ?
Aus dem stillen Raume,
Aus der Erde Grund
Hebt mich wie im Traume
Dein verliebter Mund
Wenn sich die späten Nebel drehn
Werd' ich bei der Laterne steh'n
Wie einst Lili Marleen. . . .
