The Arctic conditions over the UK, caused by Climate Change, hit the rest of the UK two days before it arrived in Bristol; and compared to the rest of the country we got off lightly. We had the sub-zero temperatures, but not so much of the chilled winds from the east; causing the ‘chill factor’ making the UK colder than the Arctic Circle.
The cause of the freak weather was an unusually warmer arctic circle pushing the Jet Stream south of Europe; the Jet Stream normally north of Britain and protecting us of harsh cold of the Arctic.
When the East of the Beast (blast of cold arctic air from Russia) finally arrived in Bristol Storm Emma from southern Europe also arrived; the combination of the two creating more snow than would otherwise have been; albeit with 150cm (6 inches) we got off light compared to other parts of the UK.
The snow only lasted two days in Bristol, much shorter than other parts of Britain. This video is glimpse of the driving conditions on the urban roads of Bristol over those two days of the snow storm.
The original sound track is muted because the car radio was on, which would infringe copyright laws; therefore the replaced sound track is licence free music ‘On Memory Highway, Won’t Stop the Fall’ automatically generated by Pinnacle Studio’s Scorefitter.
