Washington State Parks has been named a finalist in the National Gold Medal Award program of the American Academy for Park and Recreation Administration (AAPRA) and the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA). The awards recognize excellence in park and recreation management and honor communities and park systems in the U.S. that demonstrate excellence through long-range planning, resource management, volunteerism, environmental stewardship, program development and professional development. This video is Washington State Parks’ final submission for consideration for the National Gold Medal Award in the state parks category.
The Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission manages one of the largest and most diverse park systems in the country, with 124 parks and additional properties, altogether totaling 120,000 acres. Washington state parks receive approximately 37 million visits a year, resulting in a total economic contribution of more than $1.4 billion. State Parks provides a wide range of recreation opportunities, while protecting a diverse array of national, cultural and historical resources. Statewide programs include long-distance trails, boating safety and winter recreation.
