I hate going to conferences where we spend an hour doing icebreakers to get to know everyone in the room. I find this approach is a waste of time. All I want is to feel comfortable with the people sitting next to me and slowly I will get to know everyone else.
I approach my classroom the same way. Here is a real simple icebreaker that takes 5 minutes but instantly develops an atmosphere in the classroom. It works with all ages, from young kids to adults.
This is the first activity I do in all my classes and workshops, but it could work as a fun game to do at any time in the first few weeks of school.
Try it and let me know how it goes.
