Life expectancy for those diagnosed with cancer has improved in recent years, however not everyone has benefited. African Americans and Hispanics, for example, are more often diagnosed with cancer in later stages when cure is less likely. This could be easily corrected if members of underserved communities just know their risk factors for cancer. These may include ethnicity, age, family history, and working environment. Through the "NOW U KNOW" initiative at Roswell Park Cancer Institute, Buffalo-native comedian and actor, Lamont Johnson encourages his fellow Western New Yorkers most at-risk for cancer to take the first steps in possibly saving their own lives by calling 1-877-ASK-RPCI (1-877-275-7724) or going to www.RoswellPark.org/NowUKnow
