John DeVore's ongoing series of music recommendations, record reviews, and musings for the DeVore Fidelity YouTube channel and the Vinyl Community. Modern Jazz Quartet: Blues on Bach from Atlantic Records in 1973. Not a Christmas album, but is a Christmas album. And we share some more Customer system photos, including our first photo from an O/Reference customer.
Extra music-nerd side notes: Growing up listening to this album it didn't occur to me, but I hear now quite clearly that Milt Jackson is a bit lost playing Bach. No slight to his justified stature as one of the greatest all-time Vibes players, but his phrasing is janky at best. Also, what the hell is going on with Percy Heath on some of these tracks?? Intonation is all over the place. Weird...
