Vietnamese are the third largest foreign group in the Czech Republic, with over 60,000 people.
The first Vietnamese people came to Czechoslovakia in 1955. It was a group of 100 students and orphans. The next big group of Vietnamese immigrants, over 10,000 people, arrived in 1973 to receive education and professional training.
Appealing for them was that after they’d go back to Vietnam, they could bring Czech goods worth 50% of their net wage.
The peak of economical migration was in the ’90s. Many opened corner stores and restaurants. Second and third-generation Vietnamese speak perfect Czech because they went to local schools and are generally fully integrated into Czech society.
