The ASPCA “American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals” Disaster Response Team in conduction with Local Animal Shelters are on the scene immediately after a natural disaster strikes. Their approach to rescue and recovery is multi-faceted…navigating endless mounds of debris to locate trapped, lost and frightened pets, also providing now homeless animals with food/shelter and injured animals with medical care. Amazingly it doesn’t stop there, the ASPCA is in it for the long haul. The pets who are not accounted for by their owners, the ASPCA makes sure each animal is spayed, neutered, vaccinated and microchipped before adoption.

If dogs could talk - The Joplin EF-5 Tornado leveled EVERYTHING in its path. A tough little Jack Russell Terrier, named “Eddie” was at home in his cage while his owner, a realtor went to show a home. It was the cage that saved Eddie’s life, according to his vet. Emmy Award Winner and Storm Chaser Jeff Piotrowski was calling out for survivors on Iowa Street when Eddie emerged from under a turned over vehicle with his fur filled with debris and a nasty gash to his head. Kat, Jeff’s wife took Eddie to his chase vehicle and wrapped him in a towel. But in the chaos over the next several hours Eddie took off and a volunteer for the ASPCA found him and took him in for medical care. Eventually, he was reunited with his owner.
On March 25, 2015 a tornado struck the River Oaks Mobile Home Community in Sand Springs, OK. The tornado leveled nearly every home in that community. When the tornado hit, “Bandit” a little black and tan chihuahua was staying with his owner’s parents home just across the street from his home. His owner’s home suffered little damage but the parent’s home, where Bandit was, it was completely and totally leveled. Bandit’s human grandparents were thrown from the home but miraculously suffered minor injuries…Bandit however, was nowhere to be found. 22 hours after the tornado had hit, searching tirelessly for their little dog…Bandit was found hiding under his owners mobile home.
2 Happy Endings!
