Lyrics:Nixon Waterman
All the world seems hush’d in wonder,
Veil’d the sun that shone so warm;
Mutt’rings of the distant thunder
Tell the coming of the storm.
Now the trees are stirred and shaken
By the tempest rolling near;
Field and forest rudely waken,
Lo! The storm is here!
Crash on crash the lightnings rattle,
Peal on peal the thunders roar!
All the heav’ns seem rent with battle!
Now the rain begins to pour.
On the roof its torrent dashing,
And against the window pane,
Shouting, tumbling, laughing, splashing,
Comes the rain!
Now it slackens, now increases
At its own wild will till,
When in a sudden hush it ceases,
Lo! The sun shines forth again!
And in glory fresh and tender
All the grateful valleys lie,
While above them,
Wrought in splendor,
Stands a rainbow in the sky.
