Have you thought about seeing a Therapist as a Believer?
Introduction
Hey guys, this week was my first time attending a therapy session where a therapist and I sat across the room and talked. In today's video, I want to share some lessons I learned from my first visit. There is so much I wanted to share but I also wanted to keep this video short. Let me know if you have any questions.
Preface
I want to preface this video with this truth. According to Colossians 2, Christ is all, and He is sufficient for all of our needs. If you are struggling emotionally, mentally, in patterns, etc. In Christ, you can be healed. I hear this narrative of "Jesus and therapy," though I understand my thoughts are Jesus. Period. Therapy, mentorship, and such are merely supplements. They are helpful, but there is nothing like the power of God.
What led me to seek Therapy finally?
Honestly, I've toiled around with this idea since marriage. I could recognize patterns, but it was challenging to identify the root. As I reflect on my family, the generations before me, and even my children, I recognize stuff, and I am like, no, the buck will stop here. So it's family dynamics, but then it's the weight that I feel is invisible.
My words to my therapist was "I know I am capable of this, this, and that, yet I can't progress fully in the way that I know is possible. It's like a block." As I had been praying through it, I decided to make an appointment and actually show up, and so I did.
Video Details
The first lesson I learned is that when you understand scripture, most of what you hear will mesh with your theology. The therapist talked about Primary and secondary emotions. We stuff feelings and emotions down in the secondary space, but the Primary is displayed. Ideally, the genuine emotion is secondary, so it's what's driving the Primary.
Biblically, this is the process of fruit and root.
We also talked about Executive management skills.
In conclusions
Everything is spiritual but some behaviors or not. That sounds confusing, But it's the reality that it's easy for believers to push everything on spiritual warfare and Satan but some strongholds, patterns, or rooted in our inability to see ourselves In light of God's truth, believe it, and actually live it out.
I will share in the next video how the above affects our decision making and godly judgement.
Be Encouraged,
Bible
'As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him: rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving. Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power: 'Colossians 2:6-10
