Quick test of VidPro XM-55 Shotgun Mic to test the sound quality at various distances.
The mic was in it's shock mount with coldfoot adapter on a table top stand designed to hold a flash and aimed directly at me. I wanted to know at what distance the room environment would alter the sound clarity with this new mic. UPDATE Deal Breaker Flaw: Sent this microphone back because it did not have standard 5/8's 27 (or standard 3/8's) threading on the mic holder or the shock mount holder so there is no way use this with a standard mic stand or boom pole. The only way it works is with the supplied hot-shoe adapter or the little hand grip. What a production oversight. B & H even checked the XM-88 and it has the same odd threads.
The sound quality is OK but certainly doesn't come close to the quality, volume, & clarity of my other mics. Oh well, it was worth a shot. If it hadn't been for the stupid connector threading and the fact that a different shock-mount would have cost almost as much I paid for this, I would have kept it.
NOTE: Ended up going with Sennheiser ME66 instead.
UPDATE: After trying to use some audio recorded with VidPro and having to re-record it to get acceptable sound, I'm glad I didn't keep this one after all. It really is not good enough quality that I would trust the results for even just playing around. All of you who said to save up and buy a proven quality mic were right! Grrrrr.
