When it comes to the most celebrated writers in India, Munshi Premchand’s name is undoubtedly the most favourite one among the readers of Hindustani literature. He is perhaps the greatest Indian Urdu-Hindi writer of all time. The genre of short stories in India owes a lot to this great writer who had significantly contributed to give a new direction of storytelling in India. Premchand’s prolific style of writing gives the reader an in-depth critical analysis of various social issues, such as moral bankruptcy, the plight of women, farmer’s plight, caste injustices, blind faith, patriarchy and many more. He highlighted these issues through his 14 novels and more than 300 short stories. The enigma of his writing can be inferred from the fact that this great writer remains as relevant today as he was more than a century ago.
इस वीडियो में हम आपको प्रेमचंद का जीवन परिचय देने जा रहे हैं। मुंशी प्रेमचंद (Premchand) का असली नाम धनपत राय (Dhanpat Rai) था। उनका जन्म सन् 1880 में, वाराणसी (Varanasi) जिले के लमही गाँव (Lamhi Village) में हुआ था। उनके पिता का नाम अजायब राय और माता का नाम आनंदी देवी था। अजायब राय, डाकखाने में क्लर्क थे, और केवल 20 रुपये मासिक वेतन पाते थे। घर की आर्थिक स्थिति सामान्य थी। प्रेमचंद को पास के गाँव के एक मौलवी साहब के मदरसे में उर्दू और फारसी (Urdu and Persian) पढ़ने के लिए भेजा गया। जब प्रेमचंद आठ वर्ष के थे, तभी उनकी माता का देहान्त हो गया। पिता ने दूसरा विवाह कर लिया।
प्रेमचंद को अपनी पत्नी और सौतेली माँ के बीच झगड़ों के कारण घरेलू परेशानियों का सामना करना पड़ा। एक बार उनकी पत्नी उनसे निराश होकर अपने पिता के घर चली गईं। प्रेम चंद ने उन्हें वापस लाने में कोई दिलचस्पी नहीं दिखाई। सन 1906 में उन्होंने ने एक बाल विधवा से शादी कर ली, जिनका नाम शिवरानी देवी था।
अपने उपन्यास रंगभूमि (Rangbhoomi) में प्रेमचंद ने जीवन के सभी पक्षों का विशद विवेचन किया है। कर्मभूमि (Karmbhumi) में प्रेमचंद ने दलित किसानों और मजदूरों की, मूक वाणी को स्वर दिया है। इसमें देश की जागृति और सजीवता के चित्र देखने को मिलते हैं। प्रेमचंद का अन्तिम उपन्यास गोदान (Godan) देश की तत्कालीन परिस्थितियों का स्पष्ट दर्पण है। भारतीय नारी के आदर्शों का चित्रण कर प्रेम चंद ने इस उपन्यास में भारतीय संस्कृति के प्रति अपनी आस्था व्यक्त की है। उन्होंने सैकड़ों कहानियाँ भी लिखीं, जिनका संग्रह मानसरोवर (Mansarovar) नाम से आठ भागों में प्रकाशित हुआ।
